With 35mm cameras, you have the option of either placing a zoom lens directly on the body the camera, or choosing a lens with a predefined, fixed focal length.Bear in mind that if you use the electronic zoom setting, you may experience a slight degradation in overall picture quality. On many modern digital cameras, you can either use just the optical zoom, that is to say the amount of zoom length that the actual lens will allow, or you can opt to increase it electronically. If you’re using a digital camera, and are trying to concentrate on a distant object, you will probably want to zoom out as much as possible. It is important to recognize that different types of lenses, besides giving you a different view through your viewfinder (or screen on your digital camera) also have different optical characteristics that both affect the aperture and the depth of field. If you’re taking a picture that has both foreground and background objects that you wish to have in sharp focus, you need to use as large an F-stop opening number as you can.ĭifferent Lenses Have Different Characteristics Depth of field is basically how much of your picture will actually be in focus. The larger the F-stop (which means the smaller the opening), the more depth of field you will have. For some people, this takes a little getting used to, but with time, it is an easy concept to grasp. Somewhat counter intuitively, the smaller the number, the wider the opening. The size of the opening is known as the F-stop, and is expressed as a number.Obviously, the wider the opening, the more light is allowed through, and the smaller the opening, the less light is allowed to enter. How small or large the opening is will determine how much light comes through the lens.On digital cameras, this is most often controlled electronically. The basics of aperture: in traditional 35mm cameras, each lens have inside of it is series of leaves that close or open, depending on the setting that the user chooses.Let’s start out the quick review of what aperture is and how it works. There exists a delicate balance between the aperture that you choose and the depth of field that you will get as a result. To do this, you have to understand the basic principles behind the optics involved in cameras and how they interact with each other. If you have time to make the proper adjustments ahead of time, you will have a better chance of capturing that once-in-a-lifetime moment. There are certain situations that will not wait for you, such as fast-moving scenes, (a sporting event, or an airplane flying by). So it is important to know what you are trying to achieve with each picture, and know how to adjust your settings appropriately, so that you get the results you want, hopefully with the first shot. If you’re still using a 35mm single reflex camera, or even a more sophisticated 6 x 6 camera, you don’t have that luxury. One of the great advantages of modern digital cameras is that you can instantly see the results of the pictures that you have taken and erase those that don’t meet with your expectations. 6/22/2023 0 Comments Keg still with thumper![]() Some distilleries will distill their spirits a third time to create a very strong spirit with a pure flavor. Most distilleries will use a beer stripper (a very basic still) to turn the wash into low wines, then a separate spirit still which turns the low wines into a high-proof spirit. The low wines must be distilled again to create a distillate with a higher ABV. The collected vapors yield a solution called the low wines, which are typically 25 to 35% alcohol by volume (ABV). Related: How to Proof Moonshine How Does A Thumper Keg Work?Ī normal still heats the wash (fermented solution) to a high temperature in order to release alcohol vapors which are captured by a condenser. Moonshiners interested in making potent spirits would sometimes place additional alcohol into the thumper, which would be distilled again to create a very powerful spirit. Contrary to popular belief, the thumping sound is not caused by mash falling into the container. It is called a Thumper Keg because of the thumping sound that the vapor and condensed low wine make when the still is in operation. ![]() However, it is thought that the thumper keg was invented in Europe many years earlier and came to America with the first settlers. This creates a high-proof spirit without the need for double distillation (more on how a keg thumper works, below).Īlso known as a Thump Barrel, Thump Chest, or Doubler, the thumper keg was very popular amongst Prohibition-era distillers and moonshiners in the Appalachians. ![]() It receives low wine from the stillpot and heats it again, sending highly purified alcohol vapors to the condenser. The thumper Keg is a small copper, steel, or wooden vessel which is placed between the stillpot and condenser. 6/22/2023 0 Comments Affinity 56![]() Chuaria circularis from the early Mesoproterozoic Suket Shale, Vindhyan Supergroup, India: Insights from light and electron microscopy and pyrolysis-gas chromatography. This study partially resolves the century-long controversy over the affinity of Chuaria, and makes Chuaria one of the few recognized multicellular eukaryotes before the Neoproterozoic glaciation. Membrane-like structures within the cells (the first to be reported in Precambrian fossils) imply a eukaryotic nature. Different thicknesses of cell walls suggest primary cellular differentiation in this organism. The cell walls in Chuaria suggest that it is a multicellular eukaryotic alga, in agreement with the latest biogeochemical analyses. In this paper the cellular details of Chuaria are clearly revealed for the first time. Although often treated as a multicellular alga, this interpretation remains inconclusive because the lacking unambiguous demonstration of cellular structures. Many mutually exclusive affinities have been suggested for this frequently encountered fossil. It is perhaps the most controversial fossil in term of its affinity despite more than one hundred years of study. Chuaria is one of the few globally distributed macrofossil pioneers documented in the Precambrian. ![]() List of Levels | Candy Crush Soda Wiki | Fandom. There's some sort of message in that, but my fingers are too messed up to type it. There's even a button you can click on between levels that says "Sore Wrist?", which I assume once opened up a webpage showing off some sort of gel wrist rest, but now if you click on it, you're just brought to a "Page Not Found". But none of it's worth the agony I'm now feeling. There's some pretty fun stuff that you can unlock as time goes on from the Temple, which allows you to convert enemies by dragging them into your castle, to the Mana Pool, which allows you to train these converts as wizards that can rain devastation down from the battlements. ![]() Not when you're doing it twice a second (and that is very much the pace you'll need to set once you get past the first few levels). The thing is, this action of clicking and then dragging violently upwards is not a familiar one for most mouse-users. There are all sorts of weapons and upgrades you can unlock that help you to deal with the ever-increasing tide of enemies, but your primary weapon will always be to pick up each invader with your cursor, and toss them into the air so that they come crashing down in a puddle of blood. Defend Your Castle is a browser game all about, well, defending your castle from endless legions of stick-figure invaders. It seems completely harmless, and - dare I say it - even enjoyable at first sight. I now realise there was a reason I hadn't played Defend Your Castle in about 15 years. I mean, who on earth would willingly subject themselves to the task of typing an article, when their fingers and wrists have been mangled beyond repair in just five minutes spent reacclimating to this diabolical browser-based Flash game? This harbinger of repetitive strain injuries? This annihilator of tendons and ligaments and souls? I am truly a masochist for deciding to write about Defend Your Castle. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time. Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. 6/21/2023 0 Comments Tabby slime![]() Quantum plorts are believed by many to hold the secret to infinite resources. This innovation has lead to metropolitan areas on Earth completely transforming visually, allowing more light to reach the streets and the space as a whole a chance to 'breathe.' Architects often describe these transparent metals as 'so totally cooler than normal, boring metals'. Though the crystals produced by a crystal slime are highly unstable, a crystal plort, like all plorts, is far more pure and can be used by slime scientists to engineer a variety of metals that are entirely transparent. Now and far into the future, the little noble actions of every individual help us move forward as a people. ![]() A rancher won't get rich selling fire plorts, and certainly managing them can be a dangerous endeavor, but they should know that the sale of each helps those in need. Thanks to fire plorts, warm hands and hot food is a possibility for millions of people who otherwise would not have access to such luxuries. While some people argue that there is little difference in taste between it and tap water, those people seriously are not getting it.įire plorts are used in the developing world on Earth to keep stoves and fireplaces burning. This compound is used to create an absurdly expensive brand of bottled drinking water that is sought after by the elite back on Earth. Puddle plorts are made almost entirely from an incredible hydro compound known by chemists across the galaxy as H2Ohhhhh. Military organizations value their highly destructive capabilities for "medical technology and other research". Highly volatile boom plorts have all sorts of applications, including powering rocket thrusters and demolitions. These refined honey plorts are said to score an unprecedented 867 on the Werner-Thompkins-Hong sacchrino scale, just a few points shy of 'not fit for human consumption'. Though the plorts are naturally incredibly sweet, the discovery that they could be refined into an even sweeter substance made their demand soar. Honey plorts are highly prized by food manufacturers. Most rad plorts get turned into 'plortonium' and everything from the latest holophone to a radwave microcook system runs on the stuff. Given that raddies are basically mobile batteries, it's no surprise that corporations value rad plorts for their incredible energy-producing capabilities. And while athletes the world over take them to gain an edge, prolonged use often results in "uncontrollable butt wiggles", another (less desirable) signature of the tabby slime. Tabby plorts are a key ingredient in a variety of "performance enhancing" products that grant the consumer a surge of the tabby slime's signature energy and exuberance. Plus if you rub the stuff in your hair, it glows and looks really cool. Cities across the globe are slowly switching over to phosphor lights, saving trillions of gigawatts of energy daily. The luminescent compound found within phosphor plorts can produce light for over 100 years, making it an incredibly eco-friendly form of illumination on Earth. Because of its amazing strength, blue metal is often a key component in the hulls of light-speed capable starships, synthetic appendages, and protective holophone cases. Rock plorts are prized for being a key component in the production of 'blue metal,' an amazing alloy that's stronger than titanium and lighter than plastic. All over the Earth, people are eating burgers, sweetening their coffees, or scrubbing their floors with pink plort products. Pink Plorts are an excellent "multipurpose generic substance" used to manufacture everything from food products to household cleaners. However, they are also widely used in Slime Science.īelow are each plort's uses as stated by their Slimepedia entries, and links to their category pages for Slime Science recipes each plort is used in. ![]() Plorts are very useful for a variety of purposes, especially back on Earth. Slimes will never eat plorts of their own type. All plorts except the Puddle, Fire, Gold and Quicksilver plorts can be eaten by slimes. Note that in Casual Mode, largos cannot eat plorts so Tarr do not exist in that mode. If a largo consumes another plort unlike its own, it transforms into a Tarr. When a slime consumes a plort they do not produce, they undergo a sudden, permanent transformation into a largo a larger hybrid version of the original slime and the type of slime of the plort it consumed. When a plort is produced, it is encased in a gel sac which prevents other slimes from eating it until it dissolves. Plorts all share a basic global appearance, and each plort type shares a characteristic with the slime that created it. But the overall outcome is, at best, more interesting than good. Here, at least, the architects avoid the trap of placeless design that plagues the mall's interior. The bays - their undersides painted orange, a favorite color of the developers, the architects say - combine with marquee-style lighting on the building's entrance canopy to absorb and amplify the theatricality of the Randolph entertainment district. The design creates the illusion of a thin projecting plane attached to a glass box. Washington.Īlong Randolph, at least, this Janus-faced arrangement addresses what the architects viewed as one of their prime aesthetic challenges: how to break down the massiveness of this superlong building, which is essentially two apartment buildings with an elevator core in the middle. It was a miscue for SCB to take its design cues from these second-rate buildings: to the north, along Randolph, a series of angled, randomly arranged bay windows that extend the mall's undulating facade into the sky to the south, flat silvery glass walls that echo 22 W. The city and the transit agency mothballed the project in 2008 after cost-overruns and the prospect of spending at least another $100 million to complete the underground station and a connector tunnel linking the Red and Blue line subways. The absence of the much-hyped CTA superstation was especially grating. The mall disappointed on many counts, from metal exterior walls that aped the materials and free-form geometry of Frank Gehry's Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park to a pinched atrium that had all the panache of a suburban mall. The meek, glass-sheathed office building was no match for such muscular neighbors as the Richard J. ![]() Washington office building, by Perkins + Will, which opened in 2008. ![]() Unfortunately, the building, designed by Chicago architects Solomon Cordwell Buenz (SCB), continues down the same mediocre path as Block 37's previously completed projects: the four-story mall, by Gensler architects, and the 17-story 22 W.
